Petes HAH BBB by joverine Petes HAH BBB by joverine
A page in my Giant Canadian Sketchbook(110lb paper) showing a study I did to test markers for a whole scene...not sure I would use them in this way. I may try water colour bgs and marker characters next. That way the characters would look like animation cels on painted bgs maybe? (assuming I learn to watercolor lol)

I used Prismacolor Col Erase Pencils to sketch it out(both Indigo blue and Carmine Red) followed by the amazing Pentel Pocket Brush to ink(I'm in love with this refillable brush!) and to colour I used a variety of markers laying around but mostly Copic Markers and Prismacolor since I have so many of them.

Yeah the watercolour as BGs would work really well. Should definitely give that a try and work them up layer by layer to make it less stressful? The newness makes it seem challenging! If you're worried about mistakes, you can always retouch them up on Photoshop. I think it'll look cool.

Love the frog + bird dudes.

Thanks!
although the crappy photo makes it look cleaner than it is :P
but I kinda dig the 'messy' look of markers!

rad. good call on the bg - you can cover a lot more ground with the watercolor, AND save some marker life! x2 bonus.

These have been for a personal project I've been playing around with for years and years.
The posts are studies I'm doing for it to see if I can do a full comic with them.

cheers!

Dude! Watercolor is the shiiiit...actually I prefer gouache. I finally bought one of those pocket brushes. They are shizzelsfanizzals (whatever). Great recommendation.

hmm, do you ever need to work on heavier paper? or is 110lb good for what you do?
